Our first unit this year was Patterns. We learned about patterns in equations and data set which, the whole unit was pretty self explanatory. I chose to use my unit cover letter because It wasn't very good and the difference between my first and last cover letter was huge.
Our first unit of the year was patterns.
|Patterns|
Mathematical Concepts: Functions Families, In&Out Tables, Function Transformations.
Mathematics is “the abstract science of number, quantity, and space. Mathematics may be studied in its own right, or as it is applied to other disciplines such as physics and engineering.” We applied concepts of mathematical patterns to several different real-world scenarios in or POW’s (problem of the week). We started out learning patterns by using In&out tables and solving the function from there. After that we moved on to function families and different types of equations that create different lines on a graph. During that section we were taught horizontal and vertical shift. We then moved on to lines and curves. We did to activities that involved our height compared to our wingspan and our shoe size. I discovered that I am perfectly proportional.
At the very end of the unit we watched a three part video series about spirals in plants and the Fibonacci Series and how it applies in plants.
I feel that I understand math this year very well. My test scores aren’t very good but that’s always how things have always been. I understand patterns pretty well. I still don't like working with people in groups though.
