Space Settlement Film Project

I grew as a digital artist in many ways, before this project I didn't know much about lighting or framing. At the beginning of the unit, we spent a couple 1 or 2 weeks learning and experimenting with lighting and framing. We took multiple photos that used multiple types of framing and lighting in our groups so that we could know what to do with framing and lighting when we did interviews or took b-roll. In the future, I can utilize these skills for future projects or for social media.

In order to create a space settlement, you have to take into account multiple physics concepts like Newton's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd laws of motion as well as circular motion and a few others. Newton's 3 laws of motion are: an object will stay in motion unless acted upon by an equal or unequal force, force=mass*acceleration, and for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Circular motion is the movement of an object along the circumference of a circle or rotation along a circular path. You have to account for Newton's 1st law of motion because it means that if you were in orbit with no air resistance you would just need to start with a push and you would keep going in that orbital path until you adjust yourself with some kind of force or ran into something. Newton's 2nd law is very important because with that formula you can figure out the amount of force created by the mass and acceleration of the settlement or ship. Newton's 3rd law says that there is an equal and opposite reaction to every action. Circular motion is basically your orbit because you would be moving in a circular orbit around the planet and your settlement would also have to rotate in order to create gravity. Both of those use circular motion.

The 21st Century skill of refinement was my greatest strength in this project. We went through many different designs for our space settlement, at first I designed a pod type of settlement that was fixed to the surface of Mars but we soon realized that it was unrealistic and was too hard to figure out all the logistics of it. I then designed a settlement with circular pods attached to a ring and spokes the attached the ring to a center rotational pillar that would rotate the settlement to create gravity. I tried doing the math to figure out the area for living pods but it was hard to figure out the surface area of every level of living space in a spherical pod. Finally I turned the spheres into cylinders and was able to calculate the amount of living space and exactly how big each one had to be. I spent a lot of time and effort trying to figure out the dimensions of each draft of our settlement and a lot of time designing each one and making sure the wear the best they could possibly be.

The 21st Century skill of collaboration is a skill that I need to work on. The other two members in my group worked well together while I spent most of my time doing the math on my own and contributing to the project on my own. I should've worked more with them and maybe if I had our project would've been more refined and our documentary could've been longer and reached the minimal time. Collaboration is something that I haven't been the best at, I like working on my own more than I like working in groups but in order for me to succeed in the future I'll need to work on my collaboration skills because it's a very big part of a work environment, I need to be able to work well with and communicate with others.
